System to Overclock

I'm putting together the following system this weekend and was wondering if anyone had any comments on the "overclockability" of the components:

  • MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum nForce3 Ultra Athlon 64(FX) Skt939 DDR ATX Motherboard w/Audio, Dual LAN, RAID/Serial ATA
  • AMD Athlon 64 3800+ Processor Socket 939
  • Corsair TWINX1024-4400C25 1GB Kit DDR550 XMS4400 Memory w/Black Heat Spreader
  • Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 ST3160827AS 160GB Serial ATA 7200RPM Hard Drive w/8MB Buffer
  • BFG GeForce 6800 GT OC AGP 8X 256MB DDR3 Video Card w/TV-Out & DVI
  • Silverstone Temjin Series Silver ATX Full Tower Case with Wind Tunnel, Model "SST-TJ06-S"
  • OCZ PowerStream 520W Power Supply With Adjustable Power Rails With LED Indicators, SATA Connector, Model "OCZ520ADJ"

I did read somewhere that when I set up the RAID I need to do it on 3 & 4 because there's an issue with using 1 & 2 on the MSI boards and overclocking. Is there any other component specific information I should know when assembling this thing?

Thanks!

The 3800+ won't get very far, you're better off with a 3000+ or 3200+ winnie. Nice case choice though and of course the ram. ;)

Was wondering the same as the Doc. doesn't make sense to go for NF3 now, unless some of the stuff is already bought.

Yes, I already owned the video card which kind of forced my hand to stick with the NF3 chipset...

Kensai- So if I understand correctly, a 3000+ or a 3200+ OC'd Winch can out perform an OC'd 3800+?

No, it's just alot more expensive. In these forums, we always assume money's an issue unless you say otherwise.

I do know that 2500mhz+ isn't unheard of for the winnies (even the 3000s) and that some get 2700mhz+ with luck and good cooling.

Most of the newer winnie's have been hit or miss overclocking. So far things are looking up for the overclockability of the new venice core.

Yeah if money is of no concern, by all means go for the 3800, if not, 3000/3200 is your best bet.

If money is no concern, the FX-55 is the king of OC'ers with the new soi or ssi or whatever (I think thats it) Remember venice is coming soon, runs at 1.2v and apparantly OC's good.
