System Shock 2 Video's Not Playing!!!

I'm running Windows 2000 Pro and the intro video's as well as the other video won't run when i'm in the game. If I browse the CD and go to the video folder i can play them perfectly... they are avi files? Anyone know where the problems lie? I bought the game for $10 Canadian. Is there a video patch for ss2? I tried the generic patch and it said i had the latest version. thanx, peace out.
