System Setting

Not sure if this is possible...can the "saving systems configuration" message W2K displays during shutdown be changed? If nothing has been changed why does W2K always want to change the systems files? Any good Microsoft techs out there?

Thanks

You're welcome. But now I'm going to backtrack just a bit. Actually, I should have said that it's a journaling file system if you're using NTFS. So journaling may not be the only issue here. There is also the fact, however, that the system has to save some system state information to the registry -- the so-called dirty bit has to be turned off during a proper shutdown. (The dirty bit, if not turned off, indicates to the system at next startup time that the system wasn't shut down properly last time, so chkdsk needs to run.) So it could be that little item, in addition to any other system state info that might have to be saved for any number of reasons. I just didn't want to be guilty of misinforming you.

Regards,
Jim
