My computer crached recently and my comp is a bit different now, no biggie, but I decided to do a system restore to two days ago. I tried and it said incomplete restoration. It's happened before, so I usually go a little farther back. So I tried System REstore to about 5 days ago and still got the Incomplete Restoration message. I tried about 7 different points dating all the way to two weeks ago and I get the same message everytime. Got any ideas what could be the problem and anything in general that I should look for? Thanks.

What have you installed or changed lately? What exactly crashed? What are the error messages? Have you tried booting to last known good configuration.

Ok, sorry. Well, I don't get any error messages, really. It's just that my turning my computer on and off is a bit different... This happened once before and system restore worked fine. Here's the problem. (BTW I have XP Pro) First of all, when I press Start, shut down, the format of the shut down screen is different. Instead of being 3 seperate buttons, there is a pull down menu with the three options. I don't know exactly how it might of changed... Well, that's not such a big thing, but when I turn on the computer, it asks for user name and password (to login)... Before, I didn't have to type anything (by the way, there's no password to my login. so it's pointless for it to appear) I'm also the administrater (It's my own personal computer). Again, the format is also different than what I've seen in regular XP. A login screen comes up like in Win98/me, etc., NOT like in Windows XP which is completely different. I'm pretty sure there's a way to disable the login screen, but how do I get the format/style of XP back. I have a logon screen (using logon studio) and that doesn't show up at all.
Also, when I press CTRL ALt DElete, I get this Windows Security Menu that I've never seen before. It has the option to Lock computer, shut down, task manager... etc. Before, when pressing ctrl alt delete, it would just bring up the task manager which is what I want.

The thing I'm really pissed of at is System Restore. System Restore has been my best friend up to now :) But it not working 7x in a row is just frustrating. It doesnt' seem right.

As to what I've installed....I think I installed Icon Packager and maybe another program, nothing out of the ordinary.

That's about it...

Go to control panel, user accounts, Change the way users log on or off, Click use the welcome screen.

Ok, well the solution was pretty simple, lol. I'm such an idiot :)
But I wonder how it just automatically changed... grr stupid Windows. and then what's up with System Restore not working. Man, it's not as dependable as I thought.

Almost forgot. Thanks for all the help guys. You're a life saver, better than System Restore :)
