system restore for windows 98

to my knowledge system restore did not begin until Millenium or windows me.

although there are 3rd party utilities you could buy to replicate that

System Restore on Win98 is frequent full backup.😉

However if you would explain your problem better someone might be able to help.

It will work....slowly. Probably want to at least double the RAM.

You can restore the registry. Boot to a command prompt and type scanreg/restore and should see 5 of last registry backup files. Choose to restore. Its been long long time but I believe thats right.

using an emergency start up disk, you can use regedit.exe on there to restore your registry to a previous date. I had to use this even on Windows Me when System Restore refused to work. I know it's available on Windows 98 because I've done it on there a number of times too.
