System restarts when attempting to play audio CD

Any ideas?

Dell PC running win98.

SoundMAX integrated audio and I believe a lite-on CD.

Reads data disks fine. When you attempt to play an audio cd, media player comes up, you see the track list, then it reboots.

Has latest media player and audio drivers from windows update. Also attempted opening the CD player from accessories and opening a track with the same results, instant reboot after slight audio sound.

Thanks.

my best guess is that u are not running win 98 second edition

media player system requirements

this is how u uninstall media player in win 98 2nd edition... should be the same for yours

How to uninstall in Windows 98 Second Edition or Windows 2000

In Control Panel, click Add/Remove Programs, and then click Windows Media Player. Windows Media Player 9 Series will be removed.

try to uninstall.. your ripped tracks should remain on your hdd .. then reinstall a different version of media player

media player 7.1 for win 98 1st edition users

if indeed this is a media player conflict this should fix u up
