system resources ? when in 32bit colour mode?

When you set your video mode to 24 bit mode, 32 bit mode, and the such, does a higher bit mode number mean that my system will take up more resources or whatever and will it reduce performance? Sorry for such a noob question, but I was just too curious.
 
Actually, there won't be a real difference anyway between 24 bit and 32 bit ouitside of games. The extra 8 bits is for an alha channel, so it won't affect performance any. The only place where the bpp will affect performance are in games that are severely fill rate limited. There will be little or no affect on anything else.
