System Requirements: Comparing old to new processors

How do you know if you are meeting the correct requirements for software or hardware?

If the box says "requires Pentium 2.4Ghz or equivalent"
But now i'm confused...
There was Pentium 4 and P4 HT that went over 2.4Ghz, but now we have Intel Core Due 2 with 1.86Ghz and higher.

How do they compare, especially in the laptop side where all sudden you had Pentium M and Celeron M starting at 1.2ghz.

Anyone know of a chart that can parallel different processors?

Well, I think the 'Pentium 2 2.4Ghz' was a typo. The P2 topped out at 450Mhz, if memory serves, tho there may have been some OEM P2 500s.

This is an interesting question, as processor performance rises and clock frequency slows down slightly. I don't think model numbers are going to cut it. 500, 600, 800, and 900 series Pentium 4/D, 300 series Celerons, 3000 and 4000 series A64s, 6000 series Core 2s.

So long as the software doesn't refuse to install itself when the system doesn't meet the system requirements, I don't think it will be a problem though.

I know NWN tells me my video card and CPU (X2-4200, X1900XT) don't meet the system requirements every time I install it. I install anyway, and run the game at 1680x1050, 4x AA, and max detail settings.

I used to have a Dell Laptop and it was a Celeron 2.2ghz a low end model at the time. Now I have a IBM Thinkpad with a Celeron M 1.4ghz. Which one is better or are they equal?

A 1.4 celeron-m will be better than a 2.2ghz netburst based celeron, especialy if it's dothan based with 1mb of cache. It should be roughly equivilent to the performance of a 2.6-2.8ghz Pentium 4 gaming wise.

thats stretching it a bit there.

the general rule of thumb was a pentium M was equivalent to a 1.5 times as fast p4. i'd say a 1.4 celeron-m and a 2.2 celeron D would be equivalent.

the 1.86 core 2 duo is probably equivalent to a dual core 940 or 950 or so. and that is a 3.4 to 3.6 ghz pentium D.

I'm only basing that off my own pentium-m vs. the pentium 4's I have and only gaming wise. At 2.4ghz my pentium-m spanked the crap outta my P4 at 3.8ghz in gaming. I can almost gurantee with the small cache, and the long prescott pipeline, a 2.2ghz celeron-D will lose to a 1.4ghz pentium-m with 1mb of fast cache in gaming.

Yeah, because we mostly benchmark and compare the speeds of laptops in this forum, huh? If he'd asked this same question in the laptop forum, he would have gotten 2-3 times as many responses, that would have actually been useful to him, instead of 7 replies from desktop users, none of which even correlate. That's why I directed him there.

When I load up half-life 2, steam gives me a warning saying my E6300 1.86ghz cpu does not meet the minimum 1.9 ghz requirement.
