I'm putting together a new system. I only have to purchase a case, cpu, mobo, RAM, and video card. I'm looking to keep the price under $500. I'm considering a P4 2.533GHz and an ASUS P4PE-X mobo.

Basically, I'd like to get a solid cpu and mobo, a limited amount of RAM, and an late model video card, so that I can upgrade the memory and video card later. I'd like to squeeze as many years out of the setup as I can.

Thanks for any recommendations.

A P4 2.4C with an i865PE based board would probably perform a lot better than a P4 2.53 on an i845PE board. Its also more overclockable and would last longer. 2x256MB of PC3200 memory should do if you're on a budget.
