System process spikes

This is the wierdest and most annoying problem i have ever had. When i play BF2 or just surf the net, the system process will jump to 50-80% completly freezing my computer for either 2 seconds or 30. Sometimes it even makes my direct sound break, i.e. windows wont recgonize my sound device(audigy 2 zs). I ran spyware, virus, all clean. HELP!

what program did ou check for spyware with? i use spyware doctor and spybot just incase one misses the other. also you should go into task manager and see whats using all ur cpu usage. also bf2 is a huge game and takes alot. ive seen it taking up to 50% so its normal but being on firefox and have 80% is odd. try checking your drivers maybe windows is trying to load them or access them but it is having trouble doing so. try defraging your hard drive and also disk clean up

Is your anti-virus program running in the background? If so, it could possibly be scanning a task that is being executed for possible threats. I know my McAfee has done this on occasion after new programs were installed.

The system process is being used when im just serfing or when playing BF2. I am thinking it must be a driver issue because it makes all my sound go away when it spikes to 90% on the system.
