I just installed a new crucial 256 pc 133 cas 2 in my msi bxmaster with a p 3 600e. I allready had a 128 corsair pc 133 cas stick in there. The corsair is in slot two and I put the new crucial in slot three because slot one dose not work.

Ever since I installed it when I play UT about five minutes into the game the polygons go wacky and then the game just stops. When I close the game it says my drive H is full and needs cleanup, (drive H is my swap drive), so I do what needs to be done

Dose anyone know whats going on here and have any suggestions
Is there a tool I can dl and install that will test to see id the new memmory is working ok

Bad RAM perhaps? Try taking out your old RAM and seeing if the new stick passes the RAM test when your machine boots up.

IMHO, if you have a board that has a faulty RAM slot, get a new board. I recommend the Abit KT-7 :)

You could download Sisoft Sandra (can be found at download.com) and do the memory benchmark to see if the new RAM is working properly...

This is a very weird problem, you could also try to stick it into slot one... Maybe your old RAM wouldn't work in slot one, but this new RAM will...

I know it's not very helpful, but I've never heard of a problem like this.

I thought maybe it was a heat problem because the temp of the system was up to 39 celcious so I let it rest off for a while. When I rebooted and loaded up UT , it happenned again. The polygons go whacky in one spot and then it says drive H is full and needs to be cleaned ( drive H is my swap drive). I clean even though nothing is in there and I reboot UT. Now UT has the wacky polygons but it dose not shut down because of the drive H problem

I would put the new stick in slot one but the last time I put a stick in there it started to smoke and a couple of the gold leads were burnt so I am assumming that slot one is a gonner.

When I installed the new stick in slot three it went good. I rebooted the system and it adjustedted itself to recognize the new stick of memmory then it updated the VMI datapool.

Is there something that I have to adjust in the Bios to allow the new ram to take proper effect. Do i have to increase the size of the swap drive, which is 211 mb

211MB of swap file is very small for a 384MB ram system. How about try the auto swap settings first before you go with your own settings? This could probably solve your problem.

Marc,
humm.. that is odd your running out of swap space.
For a trick try this: The largest of your drives (the most freespace) is now going to be your test swap drive.

goto: Start>Dettings>Control Panel>System
In system go to the last tab, which should be performace.
Click on Virtual Memory.
You should see, "Let me specify my own settings" checked.
With the swap drive as the drive. Now change that drive to a new drive and give new swap settings, say 256 inital, 384 max.
click ok and reboot.

See if that helps.

I did what you said Manjul:

Here is what happeneed. When I started up UT I did not recieve the swap drive full message, thus, the game did not stop. But about thirty minutes into the game the polygons go wacky again. Before the game would stop and the polygons would go wacky but now just the polygons are going wacky.

This all started right after I installed the new crucial chip in the third slot.

Can this be a video card problem. I have a radeon 32 ddr with the drivers that came on the cd. I never have updated them because everything was working well and I was getting good fps.

Anyone have other ideas

I don't know if it's your board.. but if the thing smoked!!!! Um.. I would have gotten a new board.. smoking boards can't be too good.. does it still do it if you remove the new ram?

well I tool out the new crucial stick and so far UT is fine and shows no signs of wacky polygons

I wonder if it is the actual stick or the the third slot is screwed
