System Precautions for a new Machine...

Alright, check my Sig. That is my computer, a computer that has taken me a very long time to buy and build. I'm wondering what precautionary measures I should or must take in order to get my machine up and stable. I currently have no monitor, yet, and no Windows XP Pro, yet. Should I run Memtest? Should I try some benchmarks? What should I do once everything is up and running? I want to know what tests, what precautions, and what programs I should install to make sure that it will work and work well.

PS. I just bought Farcry and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, yet I can't play on my computer yet...woe is me...
