I built a new system for my sister, a Pentium D system with Intel 955x

if i plug in the power cable it will poweron for like 1 second or less and power off without me pressing the power button.

The system runs fine but it's kind a annoying everytime we turn on the power strip it will do it again.

any idea why? i thought it was the PSU but i tried antec 550 and thermaltake 480 all give same result.

thanks in advanced guy

if you use the switch on the back of your case, it will act like that.

my intel 875PBZ does the same thing when i plug the power cord to the PSU.

It looks like there is a short in your power button somewhere that is related to your case. Double check all the front connection and make sure they are in the right place according to your manual as well as the case connectors. If it doesn't work with your current case, try it with another case to see if you have the same problem as your old case.

Does it matter? The one on the back of the PSU is the same as using one off of a power stripe. Same circuit, same issue. If you turn off the PC using the PSU switch does it do the same thing?

well when you first hook everything up ie all major components onto motherboard then motherboard onto the case etc etc it's not supposed to boot up by itself, does it?

My other suggestion would be this: Don't turn on and off from the power strip! It's not good for your power supply. Soft shutdown from the computer ie Start>Turn Off Computer>Turn Off until complete shutdown and that's it. If you are planning to leave the house for prolong period of time then you turn off the power strip or remove the strip entirely from the wall. I now understand what your sister is trying to do but it's stupid you know because you don't save any electricity or make your computer any less used than when you leave the power strip on.

You should know that better!

EDIT: After re-reading your original post, I (finally) agree with everyone else. It is normal. At least it tells you that the board is working but follow the instruction above about the rest (annoyance) of your problem.
