Quick Question:

What is the usual cause of this problem.

After PC boots up...Win XP Home SP1

CLick on Start and then move cursor over program and left click.....System hangs for about 3-4 secs and then program loads up.

This happens on IE 6.0 and many other Prgs.

My HDs are two 120GB 8MB Cache West Digitals. Drive are always Defraged...

Any thoguhts?

If you're talking about the first 3-4 seconds, but only RIGHT AFTER the system boots, then this is normal. If it happens *every* time you click Start or I.E. (like even after being booted for 15 minutes) then you've got a problem.

And if it is just the first 3-4 seconds, then Start Menu, I.E., Windows Explorer, Control Panel, and about 1000 other windows functions will be affected. Its because XP is more "modular" than previous windows and it can actually pop up the Start Menu and look "ready" before its actually done loading everything, and you're trying to use the Start menu while its still loading.

Thank you for the response...Let me do more research tonight.. This explains the first time loading from the start bar,IE etc... The funny thing is that it used to load super fast with no pauses etc..

Other question is if I re-format my HDs and re-install Win XP Home, can I use the same Serial number my XP Software came with, will Microsoft let me do that? I shouldn't have to buy a new copy do I?

It almost seems my PC is slowing done, I have to have something going on in the backgound...How about all of those System Restore files in my temp directories..Can I delete them?
