System Memory Help!!

I try to update my old SONY desktop system memory. The original one is
DDR2100 256M.

Does this mean I just need to find any system memory that is DDR 2100 and not need to worry about any brand?

The second one is very basic question? What does the 2100 in DDR 2100 stands for? Can I buy any DDR system memory other than 2100, for example 3200? IS there any sepecific limitation from my mother board? I mean one kind of motherboard can only suppot one limit range of number.

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The 2100 is the speed of the ram but more importantly, you need to find out the number of pins be it 168 or 184.

The manual will give further details on the type of memory needed and also the max amount of memory that can be in each slot

if you don't have a manual, take a peek behind your system tower for the model # and then go to a site like crucial.com and see what they're fitting you for.

Thanks a lot.

The number for the pins is 184.

But I still have the second question though, Can i install any DDR with 184 pin without carrying about the 2100?

In theory, if you were to get faster RAM, ie pc3200, it should be be ok in a pc2100 system.
That is theory - and some mobos are a bit delicate about this matter.
