System losing connection

Hi,
I've been getting a pretty bad connection for the past 1-2 days. I'll just lose my internet connection suddenly and resetting the cable modem or doing an ipconfig /release and /renew doesn't work. Only a reboot works. This can happen hours after I reboot, or within 20mins. A reboot will bring the connection back up so I don't think it's a connection problem with my cable company but something else. Any ideas? If not, is there anyway to reset my connection/NIC without rebooting everytime?

My NIC's an integrated Realtek one on my Chaintech VNF3-250 mobo, and it's connected directly to my Motorola Surfboard 5100.
