Specs - AMD Tbird 1.33ghz, 512MB CL2 Crucial PC133 ram, Asus a7v133 mobo, Radeon 8500, Hercules GTXP, 3com 3C-905c nic card, IBM 60gxp 60gig, WD 40gig, Plextor 8x4x32, Toshiba 16x DVD, 400watt Antec PS, all running on Win2k SP2 ACPI enabled.

Well, here is my problem. My system can and will hang at anytime, though sporadically. I could be just browsing the web and chatting on aim, playing a game, doing homework on the otherside of the room and not even touching it, or watching a movie on it. When it hangs, mouse freezes, screen freezes, and out of the sound card comes whatever sound/note was being played at the point of freezing repeated over and over again until I reboot the machine.

I have tried everything I can think of - Tbird was o'clocked to 1.45ghz, so I set back to default. Tried running ram at CL3 instead of CL2. Pulled each stick out trying to see if maybe it was a bad stick. New vid card (RIP 3dfx). Tried another sound card and nic card. Various reinstalls of win2k and winxp. Also tried moving pci cards to different slots on the mobo. System still will hang. The only things I haven't tried changing are the processor and the mobo, only cause I am at school and having a functional (though not totally stable) computer is a priority. All the latest drivers are installed for everything, and I even flashed the bios on the mobo up to 1.07, though it has done it with every bios I have had. Anyone have any clue as to what this could be, before I resort to making a tbird keychain and a frisbee out of the motherboard? Movies have been the surefire way to crash the system, as it will lock up everytime a movie is played. Other times it will go for 3 or 4 days before finally locking up. Thanks guys....any help is definitely appreciated :).

I have the same motherboard setup and I have gotten hangs/freezes once in a while too....not very often though. I do get sound loops in some games too sometimes.

my biggest problem is the fact that it will freeze whenever i watch a dvd on the system, which is a big deal because i am at college and my 19" monitor is bigger than my 13" tv, so obviously would rather watch a dvd on it. the other random freezes i can deal with, i have had uptimes of almost a week without freezing, but also not watchin movies.

<< You may need a new power supply. >>

Yea, either that or it could also be memory. If you have two or more sticks try one at a time, if not try someone else's. With memory usually it will restart and not hard lock but not always.

Which version of the VIA mainboard drivers are you using? They cause issues too on some systems...Via keeps updating them, I think the current version is 4.35. Before I updated them awhile ago, I was having lockups/freezes in a number of games...updating them seemed to solve the problem.
