I don't get it. I used to be able to play mpg's without a problem. Now my system locks up when I try to play one. The only thing different that I can think of is that I upgraded from a Gainward CardExpert GeForce2MX to a VisionTek GeForce2 GTS last week.

At first I thought it was a problem with Windows MediaPlayer but I've now tried 3 different versions (MS MediaPlayer 6, 7 and 8) and Cliprex. I put my CPU back to default speed (1.33GHz) and switched Detonator drivers from 14.4 to 12.9 but it still locks up.

OS: Win2K
Monitor: SyncMaster 950P
Settings: 1280x1024x32-bit @ 85Hz.

What am I missing?

Funny you should ask. I upgraded from a CD-ROM to a DVD/CD-ROM a couple of weeks ago but I haven't bothered to try and play a DVD yet.

Had that problem myself a while back with my brother's machine. Turned out that the combo of video card/monitor/drivers/refresh rate did not mix well. Fixed it by lowering the fresh rate. As a test, I'd set yours to 60hz, reboot, and then run a few .mpg's to see if it works. If it does, at least you know what's causing it.
