System locks up on games

I have a Dell dimension 4700 system with a 3 gigs proc, 915 mobo, 6800 vanilla, 512 MB ram, sb live, and I have a problem I have not been able to figure out for quite some time now.

Anytime I start BF2 or WOW, the only 2 games i play, the system locks right up with the display fixed to last image on the screen. no error messages, i cant go back to windows without restarting.

to fix the problem i tried the following:
a) clean installation of windows
b) latest nvidia driver
c) BIOS flash
d) Omega driver

i ran dell diags on the complete system and every piece of hardware tested positive. However I managed to get the video card replaced. I still have the same problem.

So i downloaded 3d mark 2005 and it did the same thing the moment the benchmark or the demo started. suspecting the memory/proc, i downloaded prime95 and it worked out fine without any errors for 4 hours.

I have no clue where the problem lies. Any suggestions?

Can be a PSU issue but in a different way than you might think. Try to switch to a different molex and make sure there is nothing else connected on that rail. Might help, it helped with my previous card (x800xt). For the first time I switched plugs my problem started to appear less frequently and finally - choosing a third rail - it was gone. Of course your problem still can be something else.
