System locks under AGP 8x

I am running an Asus P4P800 Deluxe, with a P4C 2.4Ghz. The video card is a Radeon 9600 Pro. It runs beautifully on AGP 4x, but I would like to run it under AGP 8x. Under 8x, the system will run fine in windows, however once any 3D app is loaded the system will hard lock after a few minutes.
 
You may wanna fiddle about a bit with the AGP related settings in the Bios such as disabling fast writes etc, note what you change.

But...will AGP 8x actually give you any performence boost?
 
agp8 will give approx 0.5 performance boost if your card suports it, and that's when the app utilises AGP texture storage as buffer, to load from in-game the increase in performance is practically zero
 
its not worth the hassle man, 8x agp is having issues all over the place. the difference from 4x is so minimal its just not worth the headache. that card is a monster and will be just fine on 4x so stick with that!
