Fic503+, K6-III 450, 128 MB SDRAM, Voodoo 3000, Turtle Beach A3dXstream, US Robotics 56K Modem, 2.1 GB WD HD (boot disk containing only Win98, some plug ins, Office 97), 6.1 GB WD HD (three 2 GB partitions containing games, data (spreadsheets and Word files, and Internet related apps (ie MIRC, downloads), Hi-Val 52X CD-ROM.
The system suffers major league freeze-ups. That is, first the open window will freeze and then the freezing seems to "roll" across everthing else, once the taskbar freezes I can't even bring up the "Close Window" with Ctrl-Alt-Del.
The one program that freezes up the most on a regular basis is IE5. I will get freeze ups while playing games (off the harddisk, not the NET)...but not always. Very strange.
I do regular scandisks and defrags (bi-weekly approximately). But when I did the last one (two days ago), Scandisk itself actually froze! This latest reformat of the harddrive and re-install of all the apps is only several weeks old.
When I don't get freeze ups I will get the infamous BSOD.
I've got the latest video drivers, VIA AGP patch, Win98SE.
Any ideas?
