System Lock-ups, Crashes, shut-downs, etc... HELP

G-Day all! Seeking some tech assistance for some VERY annoying problems. I'm running W98 with Norton SystemWorks. I've been running this set up for about 2-3 years now (I know, time for an upgrade). Recently, I've been experiencing lots of lockups, Shut down gets hung up ("system busy box pops up ALWAYS!). However, the most aggravating of all is the Norton SystemWorks WinDoctor message that pops up telling me I have Windows problems. After running WinDoctor this is what I get... "Invalid ActiveX/COM Entries." "The ActiveX/COM sections of your Windows registry contains one or more invalid entries." What does this mean? Why am I getting these messages now? My computing habits haven't changed. I'll run WinDoctor and fix the problem, but come next session the same problems are back. Not very computer savvy and would really like some help figuring out how to solve this once and for all. Thanks for you time.

I have also seen bad RAM generate similar symptoms on a Win98 install recently. Norton would find all these errors which were caused by the bad memory. I'd run memtest86 just for kicks, not that I think that is the problem for sure. It is just too easy (and free) to pass up.
