System Lags since upgrade, help

Hey everyone:

I had a dell system that i adopted, it was a:

845G Intel board
2.4ghz celeron CPU 533 FSB
512mb pc2700
radeon 9800pro
(PSU rated at 340w max)

I had just upgraded it to:

2.8ghz P4 533fsb Prescott 1mb L2
1024mb pc2700 running Dual Channel

After these two changed i noticed that in games like CS:S, Battle for Middle Earth, and Doom 3, theres this, "JERKING"

Its best seen in Counter Strike of half Life 2, when running forward for example, there will be tiny jerks as if im actually running faster then the map and its catching up, really quickly. My frame rates through all this are in the 40-75 range so its not the kind of jerking thats a result to low frame rates..

Ive never seen this before, and the only two things i could think that would cause this would be CPU throttling(which I do not know much about, but heard it slows the cpu to reduce heat), or the PSU?? I cant check ANYTHING because it's a Dell BIOS, all automatic and locked up. I get a 3dmark03 score of 5600 which seems normal for my rig with its video card, so everything seemed healthy to me.

It never performed like this before the upgrade.

Does anyone have any ideas?

It could possibly be that there isn't enough power, or that it's overheating due to insufficient cooling.

I have no grounds to back this up, though, because I've never had that problem and I have an excellent PSU. Heat could be a problem though, might want to download some free heat monitoring software (Sandra works I guess).

Probably needs better cooling. Those prescotts run much hotter than the celeron you had. Try better thermal paste and a better HS/FAN for the cpu. Are you using the same FAN/HS from the celeron?

It could very well be throttling, if you still have your older CPU, I would try it again..Also, FYI, you can't have your memory running in dual channel, the 845 chipset doesn't support dual channel..What brand is your PSU..a weak/generic PSU could cause issues, but there is a good chance it's heat related as well..try downloading throttlewatch, and see what happens when you put it under load..

To answer everyones questions:

No, I am not using the Celerons HS/F unit, I am using the retail unit that came with the Prescott P4, which was brand new with the thermal strip untouched.

The 845 that I stated as a chipset is a typo, it is truely a 865PE/G (either or i dont know) and I do have Dual channel automatically enabled.

My PSU is the Dell Factory one, which supports 340w max output, and I was told on the Dell forums that this stock PSU is being used on even larger upgrades to the D 4600, like a 3.2ghz prescott and a 6800GT

Here is a link to my true Mobo features:

The stock heatsink for the prescott may not be enough, especialy if the dell case has poor air flow..I had to use watercooling with my 3.4ghz prescott to keep it from throttling, even a thermalright XP-120 wasn't enough..so I highly recomend running throttle watch, as your symptoms sound very similar to what i was getting when my chip was throttling...the Dell PSU may be enough, hard to say for sure though..

I would remove the strip and put some AS5 on it. Or at least reseat the HS/FAN as it may not be making proper contact.

What software could i use to monitor throttling and temps?

It seems hard to find a Monitor that will support this board, or the dell. The BIOS gives me no information or temps either.

Keep us updated on what the problem turns out to be. Im betting its heat related though. Also on your RAM....are the timings the same on both of the sticks?
