System is running very unstable w/o anything overclocked and a fresh install of Win2K

Topic explains it all. Before I upgraded from my Duron 1000 to an Athlon 1100, everything was stable. Then the CPU blew and took the mobo to hell with it when I installed a CPU shim wrong. Now that I have an MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU, 256 MB DDR333, and an Athlon XP 1900+ (1.6 gHz) it keeps locking up like with the Athlon 1100. I made two fresh installs of Win2K in the past month, and I encountered the same problem with both of them. Whenever I play Counter-Strike, about in the middle of a match, everything locks up and I have to restart.

...any ideas?

How's the power supply? Any components in your system that may be causing problems? Can you try removing some or swapping components to determine the problem? Any strange software that you install that may be causing problems that you are not aware of?

If you got another stick of ram pop that in, that should be able to solve the problem. Also, what sort of HD are you running? what ps (exact model)

bandXtrb:
1) It's an Allied 300w PSU. It might be the PSU, because everything was fine until I upgraded my Duron 1 gHz CPU to an Athlon 1.1gHz...
2) I tried swapping components already with no success :/
3) Also, there is no strange software installed. This is now an almost fresh install of Win2K (installed it 2 days ago)

mcveigh:
1) I'm not sure. It's the no-name kind of RAM that you can get from your local computer store.

Qosis:
1) Don't got the money for another stick of RAM :p
2) It's an Allied 300w.

Put memory timings by spd, rise memory voltage as high as MB allow and hope that works. There's no guarantee that every DDR-stick will work with every MB.

I'd be willing to bet this is your problem.

Either try and decrease your RAM timings a bit and up the voltage, or go out and buy some good RAM (Crucial, Corsair, Samsung, Mushkin, Nanya, etc etc), and chances are, your problem will be solved.

I'm beginning to doubt that the problem's the RAM, because when I was still using SDRAM, everything was running fine. When I upgraded my CPU, the problem started. Now that I have a new mobo, RAM and CPU, the problem still exists... :(

I'm gonna exchange my RAM for some Crucial or Mushkin and see if that'll fix the problem. Apparently all they do is just pick a random stick of DDR333 from a box full of RAM from various manufacturers.

Just don't up it past 2.7V or else the ram may burn. The EPoX 8KHA+ allows up to 3.2V, which would be *really* bad for the ram :Q
