System is nearly unusuable!

Ok, my system has been acting a bit buggy, but now it's retarded. My taskmgr says it's using 99% of my CPU quite consistantly, right now my Firefox is listed at 93%, It takes for ever after clicking on something for it to open, I'm typing faster than the text shows up in the window right now, etc etc.

It appears that my windows is not distrubiting CPU time to the proper app at the proper time. Can someone maye confirm what the priority for the following processes should be set at:

Explorer
Taskmgr

How about my Avast? It has 4 or 5 processes running and most of them are set to High. Sometimes when I have the worst slow ups ashserv.exe is hogging 80% of the CPU.

I'm getting mighty frustrated here. The only way I can surf the net even is by changing the priority of Firefox to High temporarily.

Ha ha at first, I thought it said, "system is nearly usable!" for WinXP64, I figured that was something to get excited about!

I'm beginning to think the same. 🙁 Does my XP64 key work w/ XP Pro?

Have you tried shutting down Avast?

I tried closing it, next step is to disconect from the net and then uninstall it completely.

BTW, I installed new video drivers and it seems to be OK so far, so that's a bit weird.
