system is locked down.... how can i install Divx?

i need a codec capable of playing avi files, divx, xvid, mpeg4, what ever

these new computers are completely locked, you cant touch the c drive, registry is shut off completely.

some exe's wont even run, some do, then have trouble installing correctly. i cant believe they have been this daft, fair enough lock it down, but its locked so tight you cant do anything. couple of the guys here have videos (work related) and animations that are in certain codecs.... with these machines if its not mpg or wmv your out of luck

i could put in a software request...but that'll take god knows how long because the computer guys fanny around and have a request system thats full of hoop jumping.

is there a codec that wont install? or just runs as is, is there anything that can be run off a U3 USB stick?

This probably belongs in the Software forum, but I'll throw in my 2 cents before it gets locked/moved. 😛

Try using VLC Portable Edition or MPlayer. Neither need installing and should have all the codecs you need, pre-compiled in the extracted directory.
