hi,

my system is as follows:

Pentium 3 450mhz
DFI P2XBL
128mb sdram (2x 64mb)
Sound Blaster Live! value
Leadtek 64mb geforce2 pro
internal modem
40x CD-rom
4x4x24 burner
12gig seagate
2gig IBM

recenly it has started to freeze alot. It ussually freezes when loading a complex webpage or game.
It used to happen vary rarley when i had a voodoo3, but since i have upgraded to geforce2 it is happening very frequently.
I initially thought that it had to be a power supply issue, but have tried unpluging all cd-roms and 1 hard drive and the problem still occours.

my next thought is that it is a faulty ram problem? is there any way to test this? any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

i have formatted many times and tried with win98se, winme and win2000 and the problem still happens. so it is a hardware problem for sure.

thanks alot.

cheers,

Glenn Thomas

Check to make sure you have the most recent drivers for your new video card. Have you considered reinstalling your old video card to see if the lockups disappear?

i have tried using the latest drivers for all my hardware, the problem still occours.

the old voodoo3 died on me :( so i cant test it by swapping it. if it isnt a problem with any other hardware i shall have to borrow a video card to test that.

usually memory errors result in blue screens or obvious error messages. i've seen this happen when hard drives start to go bad and have to retry a lot when trying to cache pages on the disk. this shows up as a freeze until the disk retries finally work. do you have another hd you can put an os onto and try?

i do have another hard drive, i will try that next. though i dont think it is the problem as there is no hard-drive thrashing or anything before the system hangs, it will just suddenly freeze dead, sometimes with a high pitched squeal in the speakers. i will try another hard drive though.

thanks,

It could be a heat issue as well. The 64mb Leadtek runs a lot hotter than the Voodoo. Maybe you should look into another fan (case or pci)
