I've got two motherboards that have this problem (Socket A MSI, and a Socket 754 Gigabyte).
If you perform a reset in XP SP2 (Start, Shutdown, Restart), the system will go through the proper shutdown sequence and then it will restart. But after this the BIOS screen never comes back up, it just stays on a black screen. It will however shutdown correctly if you do a shutdown (and power down the system).
The same thing happens when you press the reset button on the front of the case.
I thought this might be a Windows issue, so I booted the system with a few other OSes (including some old versions of DOS from a floppy), and when you press the reset button the same thing happens, it hangs on a blank screen. It will also hang on a black screen when you press reset while in BIOS.
Both of these machines are new ones that I have just built for customers (I've built a lot of computers, and I've never had this problem before). I have tried the newest BIOS updates for each mobo.
Any ideas?
