I made a new rig recently i.e. 1 and half months ago.

EVGA 750i FTW motherboard
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 6 MB L2 Cache @ stock settings i.e. 2.5 GHz
Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800 2x2 GB Dual Channel RAM
EVGA Geforce 9800 GTX+
PC Power & Cooling 750W Quad Silencer Power Supply Unit

The problem is that my computer hangs (sometimes when i run games, sometimes during windows bootup, sometimes after windows has booted up) IF i enable more than one cores in bios.. just dont ask me how i figured it out... i figured it out after WEEKS AND WEEKS of torment and agonised thinking and troubleshooting.
even if i enable 2 cores, it hangs.. i've tried all the possible combinations of the 4 cores.

i'm rreally in need of expert help... kindly come forward with ur worthy suggestions ..
if u need any data or hardware monitoring results... i'll more than willing to supply

It would seem to be a bios problem recognizing the cpu correctly. I don't have that board/chipset, but perhaps you can look into a newer board bios.

assuming that you use a pre-installed Windows, then that could be the issue where it was not installed with multiprocessor support. You could verify this with Device Manager -> Computer, check and see if you have ACPI Multiprocessor PC or not (which is needed to support system with > 1 thread).

Have you contacted EVGA's customer service? Phone # is 888-880-3842. Or email. Or support forum.

to all of the above people...

larry... i've downloaded and applied the latest bios already.. did that some days ago.. problem persists...

the pointer.. i installed a new os... windows 7 beta 64 bit... so no problem with that.. the system properly recognizes all 4 cores when enabled in bios... it shows 4 processors in task manager performance tab... so they're working and being recognized... it just gets hanged when they're working ... :(..

flipped gazelle.... i'm actually living outside US... my bro bought this motherboard (he lives in the US) and sent it over to me... so calling evga customer support is gonna cost me millions of money!!...
as far as email and forums are concerned.. i really dont think that its a problem with the motherboard not supporting the processor.. .coz officiallly it should support the processor... other ppl are using the same mobo with the same processor... try google and see for urself.

i would also like to add. .that i've tried windows xp 32 bit.. windows vista ultimate 64 bit previously too..... same problem with them as well..

moreover.. even though none of my hardware monitoring software shows any major overheating problems... could it be that some unnoticed or non-sensor-readable overheating being going on in the CPU when i enable multiple cores?

will reducing the FSB or voltage of the CPU or RAM help?
