I have an older system that i'm going to upgrade within the next two weeks. Anyway I'd at least like to get the system to be able to be steady as it is right now. It's got an athlon xp 2200+, a7v8x ti4200, 1gig of ddr3200 350W power supply an i believe an 80gb hdd. Anyway to get to the point the system either won't make it past the video card post screen "NVidia corp 1997-2002," or when i load a heavy application it just hangs and freezes and needs to be manually restarted. I personally have no idea what it could be, the system isn't overclocked at all, a few years ago i had it up to 2.0ghz on air but it was functioning fine until about a month ago. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Are any of the capacitors on the MB bulging or already burst?

Check HERE for clues.

Do the following:

1. Clear The CMOS
2. Strip the system to the bare minimum (MB, CPU, 1 stick of RAM & video card).
3. Check the temperatures (overheating?).
4. Run MemTest and look for errors.

Please report back with results.

errrr i've been at it all night an then after work. It won't post anything past the NVidia montoring screen now. I guess I'll just wait for the new motherboard/processor/video card to arrive. This is most annoying.
