a while ago I built a new comp for my friend with duron 1.0, 128mb, xp home to replace his old gateway with pII 350, 64mb, win98. it just doesn't seem that much faster...but I'm thinking maybe if I put another 128mb in there, it could speed things up because almost all physical mem is eaten up at boot. does anybody know how much this really will help? I don't want to talk him into paying for another 128mb and then have him say it didn't make much difference

Go to the system properties, advanced tab, performance & setting button, choose adjust for best performance & then check the 2 boxes at the bottom, apply. Run MSCONFIG and uncheck useless TSR's under the startup tab. The extra 128MB or even 256MB will be beneficial for XP.
