ok all i did was take out my 2 60 gigs and 2 80 gigs, which were set up on a Raid 0

i slapped a 200 gig on the slave portion of my OS drive and now it doesnt pass the Win XP screen

i unplugged the 200 gig leaving only the 40 gig (OS Drive) and still same problem

i went to boot from the cd rom to do a basic reinstall to snag the bits of data i need....and now it will not pass the blue setup screen "Setup is starting Windows"

any ideas?????

somebody please.......help me 🙁

i have no experience with mem test but it says i have 18 errors...does this mean the ram is bad? its brand new hyper x 3200

What happens if you put the other drives back the way it used to be. Can you then boot again?

I'm thinking maybe you have to disable RAID 0 in WinXP before you take out the array? I'm probably totally wrong on this.

its a raid card not a raid through windows any hoot ill give that a try

aslo the ram is fine...i ran the test with 18 errors...yet i put it in another system and swapped the ram btwn the two and it works fine

Hmmm, all i can suggest now is unplug all your drives and the RAID card, plug in and reformat the OS drive, reinstall its OS, and then add the RAID array again.

the thing is is i have a lot of stuff i didnt back up 🙁 im usually good about it but there are some school docs that i need and dont have i put in a new drive and im gonna install xp and hopefully be able to go into the other drive and get them

update: does it stick after mup.sys if you try to start in safe mode?

had the same problem
would copy files and then hang on the same screen
when setup starts, press f5 when it is loading the hcl (or just continually press it until you get the prompt)
choose standard and it should work just fine

mine turned out to be a conflict between network devices or something like that on my board

gl

ok i tried that several times and it still hung on the same part "Setup is trying to start windows"

or were you refering to hit F5 on the safe mode boot?

with install cd in (and bios set to boot from cd before harddrive) select boot from cd to start windows setup
the blue screen pops up where it starts loading files
some where in the beginning it loads the hardware abstract layer - HAL (yeah yeah i had hcl in my post 😛 ) drivers, this is when you want to press F5
if you're not sure when that is, the just continuously press F5 as soon as the setup starts
it should bring up a dialog asking whether you want to install i386 or standard (i think those were my choices)
choose standard
eeverything should move smoothly after that
post back whether this works or no, and whether u get the dialog box to choose standard or no

hah i read it as HAL even though it said HCL....anyway that didnt work i tried it.....

spent a couple ours backing everything up today before work..came home for work decided to give it one last shot before dumping it...and it worked!! no idea why it wouldnt work for 3 days but it did all of a sudden i was ready to RMA the board and RAM

hmm weird
but at least you have the backup
not to scare but after mine started working, it started freezing a week later and is now in rehab (board/chip rma'd)
