System crashes in the middle of OS install?

1st guess would be your Q9550 threw a voodoo curse on your new rig

I'd try them one at a time to see if they all work. If they do I'd double check bios settings if settings look good I'd try another set of ram.

Well it seems all the sticks work in Channel A1

Hmmmm, ok, I changed some of the sticks around - probably not the fix: but I took out some of the plugs for the 'System Panel Header' and just left the Power switch pin in and it is working fine now - still curious though... going for the OS install now.

Another thing that is interesting is, in Bios I set the timings 7.7.7.20 which is the advertised latencies at 1333 and in testing with Memtest86 v2.11 the timings read 8.7.7.20 @ 1333 Setting it to 6.7.7.20 comes up as 6.7.7.20...

I've been their before also. When I first tried my Gigabyte E7AUM-DS2H and a e5200 I tried to overclock it. Needless to say I thought my ram was shit so I RMA'd it. The whole time it was the reset button on the case as it was sticking a little sometimes

I'd suggest taking a look at all the connectors you removed and check for possible short or possible wrong connections. Sometimes the fingers get in the way and you might be a pin off or possibly you got the +/- backwards.

I am actually testing the ram first: testing 6.6.6.18 @ 1333Mhz when they are advertised at 7.7.7.20 ...so far im on test 5 memtest86 v2.11 and it's starting off pretty good. If I can pass 5 & 6 I know I'm on to something good here...

EDIT: yes actually i didn't mention but the layout on the System Panel is horrible. No color coordination .. there are no indicators with the spacing layout, the manual diagram is vague (needs a revision for sure)...

Its every boot since those driver installs... just reformatted and am going to go through the install again....

Hmmm....I think I'd do the following.

Put a ring of salt fully around the Q9550 rig just in case it is some kind of voodoo

Double check all power connections (push wires in also) cables, etc

Double check all bios settings run memmory at it's default timings

Reseat ram and maybe swap sticks around (never know) or swap with DDR3 in your other rig?

Try to install OS with minimum build....What OS?

Power supply is new? known good?

I'll assume the bios is the most current one available and the system is not OC already.

It happened twice. The second time I changed the ram settings to auto which lowered it to 1066Mhz but I kept the 6.6.6.18 timings which it isn't rated for. But what made me overlook the timings is I ran it at 1333Mhz & the CL6 timings through Memtest86 v2.11 before my first install and it passed. It's actually up and running and nothing seems to be the matter. I will run i through the mill and see what happens.

Probably one of those things like runs prime stablefor a couple hrs but fails OCCT or IBT

Kinda takes some of the fun out of it when it all goes as planned anyways....You'll remember the build more this way.

Guess the real fun will be starting once you make sure she's stable at stock speeds

lol, I know, all I'll think of with this install is - did something not get installed correctly!? lol ..of course that's after i do the memory testing first. I'd like to see if i can get these sticks stable at 1333 with a CL6 6.6.6.18 @ T1 - if that is so, then i'll be one happy camper, the rest i couldn't care about... the motherboard is a good board, the chip seems fast... so it seems like I might not have to RMA anything... **crosses fingers**
