System details in sig.
Every time I do some heavy disk activity(R/W/WE), Vista BSOD's with a read error. The error log in event viewer will have 29 of these:
One of these:
Then, things get wierd.
Upon soft reboot, the drive will disappear from the BIOS entirely. However, if you power off, on the machine, it comes back.
Sometimes, the system will just act like you pulled the plug and the drive will disappear(usually during a copy procedure). You power off/on, the drive comes back.
Cables are secure, I've tried a couple other SATA slots(it's in 03), but it still seems to do it.
The SMART analysis that Speedfan runs tells me that the HD is fine except that the power-on hours count is low(whatever that means).
IMHO, it sounds like the HD is dying, but if so, it's really going about it in a wierd way. This drive ran XP wonderfully in my old box before, and I can't imagine Vista doing something to make the drive disappear in the BIOS. Does anyone have any ideas?
