System consuming resources in about 5 mins.

I just got my daughter's old machine (PII 350; 196 mb RAM - (I know it sucks, but I just bought a new computer, so she will get my 1 ghz machine) up and running and set up a wireless network so she could use if to access the internet in her room. I did a clean install of ME (I know it sucks, but I will eventually get XP) and it keeps crashing. I loaded up the system resource meter and it stated at 80% after a restart, but all I did was leave the machine running and within 5 mins. I heard a sound and it said the system was low on resources. I turned off the anti-virus program that loaded at startup. The only other thing that loads at startup is the usb wireless adapter.

Any idea why the system loses resources after 5 mins?

Well, I've isolated it to the Netgear USB wireless adapter. I restarted the computer without that loading up and the system resources was at 94% and it stayed there for about 30 mins when I checked it again. I then loaded up the Netgear software and within 5 - 10 mins., the system resources dropped so low that I got the error message.

Any thoughts? I will e-mail the Netgear support (they've been very fast when I e-mailed them before.

Anyone?

Well now I'm confused because even with the Netgear software not loaded, you can still access the internet. I have WEP encryption on and I figured you need that software to enter your key. I don't get why I can still access the internet? Although, since the program isn't running, the system has been very stable.

Any thoughts?
