System Clock Losing Time

I am running Win98 on a K6-2 350/64 MB RAM. My system clock seems to be losing about 4 minutes every half hour. It is really odd. It hasn't always done this, and I can't think of anything that I changed, hardware or software, right before it started happening. Now my mouse/keyboard stops responding for a few seconds at a time sporadically. I am sure that the two are related.

I looked to see what I had running and I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.

Anyone have suggestions/idea on what might be a cause or something to check? 😕

You may need a new battery on your motherboard. That would be the first thing I checked, but after that, your guess is as good as mine.

Batteries on the motherboard only affect the time if the computer is off, right? This is the opposite, the time only slows down when the computer is on(I rarely turn it off.) Like I said, it is really odd.
