System clock is missing time

The system clock on my machine seems to keep setting itself back a few hours here and a few hours there. It seems to happen when the computer goes into the power save mode where the monitor turns off but the computer stays on.

The clock seems to freeze then, like if it goes into that mode at 9PM, and I wake it up two hours later, it will still read 9PM. Could this be the beginning of the CMOS battery dying?

Is that the hardware RTC or the Windows time clock. Software that uses lots of interrupts can prevent the Win clock from working properly. That shouldn't affect the hardware RTC.
