I was thinking about running some fuel system cleaner in my older car. Curious does it really help and if so what kind should I run? Anything else one should do to a older high mileage car aside from normal maintenance?

It sure won't hurt but in certian situations it's not a good idea. Nissan for example dosen't recomend it because they use a pindel-less fuel injector. The additives can hurt it. So check out with the dealer.

How would I check with them? Its a older(96) Geo Prizm(aka Toyota Corolla from what I heard).

The geo prism uses the 3sfe toyota engine It should be fine

Pish. You can run a bottle of Techron through any engine without damage. Don't worry about it.
