She needs a typical computer w/gaming ability every now and then. What I'm looking at:

Athlon XP 1800+
Asus A7N266-VM AA
256megs PC2100
8500 LE or 9000 (64meg versions)
Case, not sure yet (looking for something stylish)
80gig Maxtor HDD

Optical drives, monitor, kb/m, etc., I already have or I'll use the on-board (in case of sound and NIC).

Any comments, suggestions? I need to stay below $400.

that looks like a great budget system. i've built a few exactly like it myself and they were a breeze to set up and the people getting them really liked them.
go for it.

Stylish looking case, huh? Does she like imac-looking crap? The Enlight 76020B1 is the best mATX case I've found. The only problem is the ghey imac-like front bezel. It's $45 at Newegg. You can also get it at Directron, with better power supply options, or no power supply, if you already have a spare ATX power supply sitting around.

Well if you are going to get the 8500LE you might consider This one at newegg at $72 and free shipping its a steal.

That was the one I was looking at. 🙂

I might she might just have to settle for a "typical" case 'cause I'm not having much luck finding a "stylish" budge case that doesn't look like crap.

BTW, thanx for the feedback guys! 🙂
