Hello everyone. Finally biting the bullett and gonna' join the "other" side...for now! ;)

Building my next system based on Abit's seemingly-all-world-ruling IC7-G motherboard. But since I have NEVER built an Intel-based system before, have some questions:

- Is the retail heatsink that comes with Intel CPU's okay? (I do not plan to overclock this system right away.)
- Bang for the buck, what's the best performing CPU to buy right now w/ the 533mHz F-Bus?
- Are there any DRASTIC deviations or differences when putting together an Intel rig vs. an AMD rig?
- Does make sense to get a couple of Serial ATA drives, or just stick to running IDE drives with a SATA adaptor?

Thanks for any help! This board got me through my very first "build" 2 years ago...now I can't imagine buying a computer that I didn't build myself! :D

If you waited this long why not wait a few more weeks for 800fsb chips?

You can find them but not everybody has them, you're getting a canterwood board so a 800fsb chip is the way to go.

If you get a 533 chip now you're going to be happy now but in a few weeks you're going to hate yourself for not waiting a bit longer & getting a 800 fsb chip.

And yes the retail heatsink is very very capable & you can even OC a bit with it.

Thanks, Budman. Glad to hear that the retail sink is good enough for my needs.

As to the 800mHz F-Bus P4...I didn't know that Intel had re-introduced it to the market. I knew it had been yanked right after its initial intro, but have since read it's coming back out. Will most like wait for it now; my initial concern about getting the best 533mHz CPU for the buck was with the thought that I'd eventually buy a 800mHz CPU.

Man, this is gonna be one pricey rig...a lot different price-wise when compared to AMD!

But it'll sure be fast...

If you can wait the new chips will start at 2.4ghz and will be cheap, that's what I am waiting for, those chips seem to OC to 3ghz + easy from what I read.
