Okay, my moms friend's uncle asked him to build his son a computer for 500$. With monitor. (Not hard in China, seeing you can get 40$ i810ET motherboards over here).

I was origonally set on using the Nforce platform. But something came up.

My friend offered me a case, Intel i850 (S423) motherboard, 128MB of RAM, and a Pentium4 williamette 1.5GHZ for 125$.

For that price, it's *extremley* hard to pass up. What do you all think about this?

If prices are high for rdram over there like they are here, I wouldn't do it. 128mb is enough for winders98se. You'll need an upgrade as soon as you build it! Not to mention it's got a serious problem...Willamette.

Well at this point the only consideration for this system is really basic wordprocessing and stuff.

But I'm under the impression that even if I shell out the extra cash for an extra 128MB of RDRAM (Which is about 50$) it'lll still ring in at around 175$.

I've used XP with 128MB of memory before, and as long as you dnt keep too many rograms open at once, it's not too bad.

128 isn't really enough for XP, even on a low end system for your mother's friend's roommate's cousin's live in boyfriend's father's aunt's neighbour's pet fish :D
