1. Medium amount of Gaming, HD Video Editing and Encoding of large videos (avg 2.5 hours) to DVD/x264, Music, web, etc...

2. $1500, but looking for value and don't have to spend for spending sakes.

3. USA

4. www.newegg.com

5. CPU: Intel, Video: ATI

6.
LIAN LI PC-7 A Plus (www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?...82E16811112211)
DVD Burner
300GB HD (SATA) (currently hosting Windows/installed programs)
1TB HD (SATA)
2TB HD (SATA)
Samsung Syncmaster 245BW x2 (Dual Monitors)

7. Default to start, OC in the future

8. 1920 x 1200, is my max Resolution on my monither

9. As soon as I figure out parts

X. No software

My current computer:
Intel Q9300
DFI Lan Party LT X48-T2R LGA 775
XFX Radeon HD 4870
8GB RAM

Would it be more worthwhile in terms of money to update the video card in my current computer over basically building a new one? This would help gaming but probably not video encoding speed correct?

Proposed New Parts:

i7-3770K Ivy Bridge 3.5GHz
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116501

ZALMAN 120mm 2 Ball Low-noise Blue LED CPU Cooler
( Current computer has one, but probably don't have the mounting bracket for an LGA 1155 board. Possible to buy the bracket separately? )
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835118046

ASRock Z77 Extreme6 LGA 1155 Intel Z77
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157295

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3 1600
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231568

Radeon HD 7850
( Now sure which brand any recommendations? Should I get with a higher end one? )

CORSAIR TX Series 750W
(Maybe this is over kill? Modular one worth it?)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139006

OCZ Vertex 3 120GB SATA III SSD
(used for Windows and installed apps only)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227706

So far this total is about $1100 if you figure $200 for a Radeon HD 7850.

What do you guys think? Any changes you would make? Opinions on the video card? Video card brand recommendation?

Thanks!

You can drop from the Extreme6 to the Extreme3 as you won't utilise all the Extreme6's features anyway. Your cooler is unnecessarily expensive if you don't plan on overclocking right away; a CM 212 EVO for $30 will do. Your memory also looks really expensive for what you're getting. Try something like this instead. You only need around 550W, and modular is unnecessary except possibly in a SFF case. This Corsair 500W PSU is fine for your needs, and is only $30 after rebate ($50 without rebate).

Honestly, on a budget of $1500 you should be able to get a 7970 (only $370 AR), a 256GB SATAIII SSD ($170), and a 1-2TB HDD ($100 on Amazon, less on NCIX I believe), which would all be appreciable improvements, either in power or ease of mind. You're spending way too much where you don't need to.

$200 more (about the difference in the graphics cards). Far more storage.

Thanks for the reply, but some of those parts you listed I don't need as I would be using my current computer parts. As I stated in my original post the following pieces of hardware I will be transferring to any new computer I build.

LIAN LI PC-7 A Plus (www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?...82E16811112211)
LG DVD Burner
300GB HD (SATA) (currently hosting Windows/installed programs)
1TB HD (SATA)
2TB HD (SATA)

Can you explain why I would want to buy the case and optical drive you listed over using what I already have?

Also why do you think I would need another 2TB hard drive in addition to the SSD?

The reason I choose the Extreme6 is that is has on board firewire (IEEE 1394) for which I have hardware that I need to interface for my video editing. Though I guess there must be some kind of Firewire -> USB dongle I could buy to do bridge the gap.

You could certainly reuse the PC-7 A Plus, but it uses a 80mm exhaust fan which is louder than it needs to be and the design is pretty dated overall. I would actually recommend the NZXT Source 220 for $50 because it has 140/120mm fans and USB 3.0 front ports.

As for the drives, I think it is time for the 300GB to be laid to rest. You could use the 1TB drive as the system drive and the two 2TB drives for storage.

Optical drive would be fine to keep as long as it is SATA.

As for Firewire, that is becoming a pretty rare port these days and I would recommend getting an expansion card that you can use for several builds rather than having to buy rarer and rarer (read expensive) motherboards. Something like this would do nicely.

Okay, what you're saying makes a lot of sense (I'm afraid I didn't read your original post carefully enough). The case is fine, though you may want to take mfenn's advice into account about the noise level; modern cases with larger radius fans will be much quieter since they will spin slower to achieve the same temperatures. You should probably only stick to the hard drives with a larger capacity (and the newer ones). An SSD is not going to be enough for your photos for sure. SSDs require a little bit of care: only install frequently accessed programs and the OS on them and leave about 25% free space for optimal lifespan and performance.

I was worried that your DVD drive was IDE instead of SATA, so I pointed you to a cheap SATA drive (there would be a compatibility issue with modern motherboards).

Speaking of motherboards, I recommended this cheaper one because you can easily get a Firewire expansion card from Newegg for $25 (less if you are willing to go Firewire 400 instead of 800), which is less together than the motherboard you chose. Sorry, I should have put it right in my suggested build. Here's an updated parts list:
