Asus A8V Deluxe motherboard

I tried to use the auto overclocking at 10% & had the following error upon reboot:

Bad Bios checksum. Starting bios recovery...

I inserted the support CD-rom & it said:

Reading file A8V.ROM. Complete
Start flashing...

Then nothing happened so I thought it was finished and tried to reboot my computer ...now nothing will show up on the screen when I reboot or turn off & on the computer. The lights & fan are working.

I just read the user guide (4-5 - 4-7) & it said "Do not shut down or reset the system while updating the BIOS! Doing so might casue system boot failure!

I think I might have done that...ugggggg! What do I do to recover the BIOS? What is system boot failure...ugggg... and how do I get to a point so I can use the support cd-rom? HELP PLEASE!

Thanks

What CPU do you have? If it's a 90nm core, then the BIOS version on the CD-ROM is not going to recognize it. But try this: look in your manual, locate memory slot DIMM_B1 (third from left, I believe), and use just one memory module, in that slot, and see if she'll POST now. If so, flash the BIOS to the current version and you're back in the action.

If your memory is designed for higher voltage than the stock 2.6 volts, like a lot of "fancy" RAM is these days, then I recommend making that voltage tweak, saving & exiting, and letting the mobo go all the way through the next POST so it knows to keep that tweak. THEN do the BIOS update. You don't want it freezing halfway through the update due to insufficient memory voltage :p

Good luck and welcome to the Forums :)

Wow...thank you so much for the speedy response and good advise! I used the DIMM _B1 slot and she booted right up to the default BIOS settings. I learned something new...actually I should have thought of trying to boot up w/1 memory module but guess I was in panic mode :) You saved my evening and I can't thank you enough!

BTW, my CPU is an Athlon 64 3200 Winchester.
