I got a system here with an

Athlon 850Mhz
256MB PC133SDRAM
MSI K7TPRO Motherboard
Kyro II 32MB VideoCard
Crystal PCI SoundCard
Linksys 10/100 HomeLan
40Gb Maxtor HardDRive

there are a couple of games that always locks up after a few min ( 5-20 ) on my computer... mostly D3D games like Battle Realms , Warcraft3 Beta and etc....
games like Counterstrike (opengl) works fine for hours.... my previous card was an GF2MX... which didn't have the problem

I already tried reformatting the harddrive , installing the lastest bios , drivers and via drivers and patches which didn't help

I had similar problems with my old Geforce II MX card. I had it overclocked a little and was fine if used for less than 20-30 min. After that it was getting so hot with the stock fan, that you couldn't keep your finger on the pcb board behind the chip. I put a huge heatsink I had laying around on it (old K6-2 heatsink) and problem stopped. Check for heat. If your case circulation is poor, your video card is going to get hotter than it should. It kind of traps air in the pocket it creates (because the manufacturers thought it would be a good idea to put the parts on backward, don't they know heat rises).

Anyway, I would think if the old driver was interfering with your new card, it would be all the time. I suppose its possible that their interaction is causing a memory leak, but my guess would be heat. (Mainly because its games that really push the video processor and video memory is where its crashing.)

More memory? 😀
