I havent upgraded in a very very long time but now my system is acting very sluggish. i have defragged as well as checked the harddrive.system specs

pcchips mobo...couple years old
duron 800
384 md sdram
16mb tnt card
80 wd harddrive
48xcdrw
over the last few weeks the computer has been hanging and very sluggish...i have installed all of the windows xp updates...might be the problem..

is the system dying...the harddrive is fairly new less than a year..no overclocking...

would it be best to upgrade to a barebones kit, if so where is a good place to get an affordable one... i dont game really mostly internet, web site design etc....what are your guys/gals opinions...

Been a while yes and you could use an upgrade but try to reinsatall the OS 1st and see if it returns to where it once was.
Many folks have an upgrade for you @ the FS/FT Forums

your system is definately aging quickly. this is a second to the nomination to reformat

all you AT'ers should be doing this every 6 months or so

Ya, if the system is sluggish try a fresh install with the latest drivers, if that doesn't help then it's hardware related.

with XP, on the menu, there are 2 spots where it offers repair, the first will put you in DOS mode, the second will load windows over the prexisting one, leaving all your programs and files in tact, but still give a clean install of windows, i would try that before reformatting, if that does not work, then reformat
