System 32 Error

So whats this one mean? An error with C:\Windows\system32\byXRIJcB.dll It only shows up when I first startup the computer. Everything seems to be working fine.

A Google search turns up with no matches.

P.S. 64 bit vista

The fact that it's a bunch of random characters makes it a textbook case for a virus or other kind of malware. It's time to blow away your system or restore from a known to be good backup.

I did a google search too, nothing at all. That has to tell you something.

I'd assume it's a virus, but it doesn't work on Vista 64, thus the error. Can you just delete the file and scan for viruses/malware?

Sure I'll just delete it and run my virus stuff.

Really glad it didnt work. Surprised that antivir didnt catch it, or maybe it did and thats why it didnt do anything cept make a registry entry?

I had one get past Avast on Vista 64 a couple of weeks ago, I even have UAC on. This trojan managed to get on my system without any warnings from anything. Luckily I make regular images of my OS drive so I just loaded a previous image.

hmmm thats odd, the file isnt at that location at all, it doesnt appear to be anywhere. Virus software already deleted the file but not the registry command to activate it on startup?

I wouldn't assume that the malware failed to install. Certainly some part of it failed to install, but another piece of the payload may have succeeded. I'm still voting for a wipe, it's the only way to be sure you aren't infected.
