Onvia has SysLink Model # EZXS55W for $55 shipped.

It is an EtherFast 5 Port 10/100 Switch. I know you can use this to share Calbe/DSL connection and to set up a basic LAN.

Anyone have any luck with this Switch? Or should someone spend $100 more to get the Netgear RT314 ??

Thanks

I just bought the Linksey EZXS55W today & have been playing around with it.Nice little unit & I mean little(bout the size of my wallet.)

The Linksey is a Hub/Switch, the Netgear RT 314 is a 4 port switch/Router.So remember with the Linksey you need to have a computer running as a server for your internet sharing. With the Netgear it becomes you firewall & all comps get there internet from it & the Modem.

I've used both the Netgear RT314 and the Linksys switch.

Both were great.

The Linksys is indeed tiny but works great. If you use it to share a cable/dsl connection, you can only hook up 4 computers because it doesn't have an uplink port. Other than that. I love it.

You can get it for $35 shipped from Staples.com. Have them pricematch Onvia's price, make sure they don't charge for shipping sonce Onvia doesn't, then use a $20 off $50 coupon.

I got the Netgear just to play around with it. Worked like a champ and was very easy to setup. As far as it's switch performance, it was the fastest one tested at PracticallyNetworked.

As far as sharing: If your ISP lets you have multiple IP's, then you can use a switch or hub with no problem and don't need a computer to act as a server.

If you get only 1 IP, then you either need to use a software proxy with a switch, or a router.

If you know if you get 1 or multiple IP's the fine folks here can gladly tell you which way to go.
