sys c: command

I have a laptop. I can only have a floppy OR cd rom at once, so when I reformatted my harddrive, I did the following.

1) Reformatted hard disk
2) booted using Win98 SE startup disk
3) used SYS C: command to copy startup files to C drive so I won't have to boot from startup disk.
4) HOWEVER, system hangs at boot up when trying to boot without startup disk. It goes far as when it is about to detect the floppy for diskette, then nothing.
5) I checked the C drive, and only file present is COMMAND.com file. I think SYS command is suppose to copy io.sys and msdos.sys files also. but not sure.
6) Any ideas so that I can boot without the startup disk in any way??

Thank you always

Have a look in the BIOS. It may be that the only boot device is the floppy drive. You should be able to set a second boot device after (or before) it checks the floppy drive.

Did you repartition your HD as well. In addition to what metallibloke said, also try using FDISK to set partition C as your active partition.

The sys command is not a perfect solution. Why not try 'format c: /q/s'

The other files are hidden. Use attrib *.* to see all the files. ;)

alternatively dir/a will show all hidden files, if you dont have the attrib command files on your drive.

Sounds like your partition is not set active. Run fdisk and make it active.
