Breaking News

Looks like the Bush administration is ramping up retort against Syria.

This comes just as General Petraues is being replaced by Fallon as the head of the Middle East war.

Many people considered Gen. Petraues as the only person keeping the Bush admin. from launching a military campaign in Iran and Syria.

UPDATE1: A covert nuclear reactor destroyed last year in Syria likely was "not intended for peaceful purposes," the White House says.

"This will be a ridiculous and pathetic charade," Imad Moustafa told CNN, saying Syria has never had any nuclear project. "This is exactly the same story as Iraq and its weapons of mass destruction," he said. "There is a proven record of this administration to fabricate lies."
I tend to agree.

I'm wondering if it will work the 2nd time around.

I mean, who could stop them? No one, that's who.

I think Syria was building a nuclear reactor

Then again why the hell wasn't this reactor protected by their air defense systems?
They have defenses that would shoot F-16s out of the sky.

or maybe Russian tech just sucks

It's been reported in an Israeli newspaper that Israel gave out a video filmed by its intelligence, from INSIDE the facility. The Video has been shown in the Congress. Report: http://www.ynetnews.com/articl...7340,L-3535609,00.html

According to the report, the video clearly shows a clone of a North-Korean nuclear facility, complete with NK engineers. That explains why NK was the first to condemn the Israeli bombing.

As for the weak defenses around the facility, an Israeli analyst claimed the project was nearly a personal affair by Syria president Assad, and to keep low profile, it was never declared a military site or even was known to most of the military leadership.

Syria expects the "gullible American people" to think it's rain that's dripping over their heads.

I tend to agree.

Is it our contention, or is Israel's contention?

Afterall, they bombed it.

---------------------

This is puzzling:

Some members of Congress have demanded for months to see the information the administration has about the incident.

Rep. Pete Hoekstra, the top Republican on the House Intelligence Committee, said Thursday the briefing had come eight months too late.

And he warned the briefing would complicate the six-party talks in which the United States and other major world powers are trying to get North Korea to give up its nuclear ambitions in return for the loosening of sanctions.

Hoekstra said it "would be much harder to go through Congress and get [six-party] agreements approved."

So, Congress should NOT be privy to relevant info on NK's involvement because it might influence Congress's vote?

What kind of BS is that?

What, we only need to give them the data that helps come to the pre-odained conclusion, and can't confuse them with all the facts. Mind you, this coming from a member of Congress. "Just tell me what I need to hear so I can vote "Yes". If the real info comes out later I can complain it was withheld from me and I didn't know - it was not MY fault"

It's about time we started another war. All these domestic issues dominating the airwaves are getting boring.

Which candidate would be helped the most by a regime-toppling strike on Syria? And more importantly, how can P&Ner's make money off any conflict?

The whole polygamist compound thing was getting played out so they needed something to move on to. Look over here! Look over here! Pay no mind to the man behind the curtain!

What do you think he's saying?

All I see is "let's not complicate the six-party deal in Congress by informing Congress" (parapharsed)

i think he's saying that, given what congress has now been told about NK's alleged activities in syria, it will be more difficult to get an agreement that can be approved by congress. congress might not believe that NK is going to stop spreading nuclear weapons.

Opps. You're right.

I re-read it and see now that the briefings he refers to have occurred. My bad.

How you go from that to war I have no damned idea.
Syrian diplomat on CNN now saying that he "hopes that the American people will not be as gullible as they were before the Iraq war."
He has a lot to learn about the stupidity of many Americans, I'm afraid, for he needs to learn that many here cannot learn.

I love all the "could have"s in that picture. I think I can actually see chemical trucks, mobile chemical labs, people. AND YELLOW CAKE FROM AFRICA!!!

How many threads have we had now claiming another war is coming?? Bush has spent his capital on Iraq. Any further wars by Bush would have to be so justified even the libs here would support it.

Just out of curiosity, what actions would any of you agree to on the off chance that the story of Assad's hidden nuclear reactor in Syria is entirely true? What then? What should be done to prevent NK and Syria from doing the same thing again? Should we simply ignore the fact that they ever did anything?

Just curious...

Nobody is going to attack Syria (invade - go to war)

Syria has the backing of the Arab nations.

You go to war with Syria then you go to war with all the other Arabs.

I have not yet been impressed by any "disclosure" of information from our intelligence dept.

The only thing that I would be interested in is if Bush got on the TV and talked to "Syria" and gave them 1 day to "fess up" before we start bombing.

Just more smoke and mirros IMO

Invade. Draft if necessary.

I was being serious. What could/would/should we do to prevent it from happening again?
