I am currently getting 5000pts in 3dmark03 with the current rig:

2.4ghz P4 533mhz FSB
640mb pc2700
Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb from ATI
Dell intel mainboard from the 4600i

No OC on any components
Latest ATI drivers.

I have never used synthetic testing before, and actually heard i can compare scores but didnt know where to look.

Is this score about right? Whats your score/rig results with a 9800 Pro?

my friends nvidia 6800 scores a 10,000, and his system is near identical, are these cards that far apart in speed?
 
Yes, and maybe your friend has a 800 Mhz bus to boot?

The 6800's are part of next generation's hardware. Meaning it's not a rehash like the 9800 was to the 9700.
